Letter to supporters of Grief to Grace Oregon

June, 2015

On behalf of the Grief to Grace Retreat Team and the participants of our retreats, I want to thank you for your support of this amazing and effective ministry!  Thanks to you and your continuing generosity we have conducted three retreats and have fulfilled our license fee requirement.  This September we will conduct our fourth retreat with the addition of some new team members.  Once again, I would like you to hear about the retreat from the participants themselves but first, I want to remind you what this ministry is intended for and how it is structured.

The retreat is a four-day process for healing from different forms of abuse.  With the help of professional therapists and trained ministers the participants encounter Jesus in a deep, personal way through Scripture passages and guided meditations.  They read and reflect privately.  They journal and participate in group activities and discussions that allow them to journey through their own pain and suffering in a safe, loving environment.  Jesus had to pass through his suffering and death in order to lead the way to the resurrection.  The participants find strength and companionship in Christ and each other as they travel the Paschal Mystery of their own lives so that they can share in the new life of Christ’s resurrection.  The reason the process works is because it all focuses on Jesus and is based in His suffering, death and resurrection.

When asked to share their overall impression of the retreat they responded:

“This is a beautiful and compact healing journey.  It renews, strengthens and challenges the human person who has been abused.  Its complete format builds on the cognitive, affective and behavioral domain of the person and that makes this program balanced.  It helps people claim back their love and dignity.  It has achieved its purpose in my experience.”

“It met all the goals I had set for the retreat.  I wanted a new understanding of forgiveness.  Also, I wanted to be able to express my repressed feelings.  Getting closer to Jesus was an added bonus.”

“This retreat was absolutely amazing.  I had no idea what I would be entering into and I am extremely happy that Grief to Grace was brought to my attention by a friend.  The retreat was cleansing, healing and parts gave me permission to feel emotions I was too afraid to feel.  The journey through the suffering, passion, death and resurrection of my Savior was beyond words.  I felt so united to him in his suffering.”

When asked what things were most meaningful for them:

“It is really difficult to say what the most meaningful part was because it was woven together in such a profound way.  I loved the sharing of our stories in such a loving, safe and non-judgmental way but incorporated all our senses with holy rituals that helped all of me heal.”

“Reading the letters on Sunday morning meant a lot to me.  The whole retreat was so meaningful because each section built on the previous section/activity.  The journal really was powerful . . . besides Jesus, I would say it might be the best thing.”

Our retreat participants have contacted us from all over the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe to experience this unique program.  It is hard to find an effective method for healing such deep wounds and it is important for you to know that your generous gift has made this experience possible and that it made a major difference in the lives of these people.

This ministry needs your continued support to provide scholarship assistance to those who otherwise could not afford to come.

Together we are making a difference!  We are bringing healing to people and families of the Church and society!  On their behalf, for the healing they received, Thank you!  On behalf of the Retreat Team for helping us bring Christ’s healing love to the wounded, Thank you!  From my own heart as a priest that loves and cares for God’s children who are hurting, Thank you!

As you can see, the impact of your gift will be great!  I invite you to make a gift to this vital ministry while seriously considering the positive magnitude it will make.  Every gift, no matter the size, is important to achieving our goal.
